Getting to Know the Furries

Most people who know myself and Jim already know we’re cat people. Okay, so Jim is a dog person whom I turned into a cat person. He tries to deny it but seriously, you should see how he interacts with our one cat, Charlie. So why am I writing a blog post about our two cats when this is a photography blog? Well, first of all, I love my cats and I think they’re cute, but mostly because I want this blog to not only be a place for me to showcase the work of Nine Zero Three Photography here in Cleveland, but I want it to be a place where you, dear reader, can feel connected to myself as well.

Those of you that have pets understand that they are just as much a part of the family as the humans, so even if you see this post is about cats and just click the ‘x’ at your top right-hand corner of your browser, that’s okay, because I want to have these cute images to remember how adorable these furries are at the ages of 3 & 4. 🙂

Meet Charlie. He’s a rescue from the Cleveland APL in September of 2009. He likes being pet on his head (NOT his butt), likes sitting outside while we brush him, and knows that his soft food for dinner is promptly served at 6pm. Really. If it is 6:01 he is generally standing on you and meowing in your face. He is the alpha cat around this house and despite sleeping on his back and showing you his belly he does not want to be your best friend. Unless you are Jim, then he does want to be your best friend.

Meet Finn. He’s a rescue from Tucson, Arizona. He came from a bad foster home so I like to make sure he knows he’s loved every day. He is scared of everything and if anyone walks into our house he is immediately upstairs hiding from you. If you’re special, he comes out later and sees what’s going on, but then he’ll be right back upstairs if you motion towards him. He is a VERY chatty cat and has many routines. He sleeps in bed with us more than Charlie, and he purrs A LOT. I’ve noticed sometimes all it takes is someone looking at him and he starts purring.

All in all, our house wouldn’t be a home without these little guys. They mean the world to both Jim and myself (again, Jim will try and deny this fact.. and then Charlie will come lay on him and he’ll get all googly eyed and lovey) and I am so very happy to say that we love them like the children we don’t have.

Do you have pets? Do you consider them family? I hope so. Rescuing an animal is one of the most fulfilling things we’ve ever done.
