California Dreamin’

Last week Jim and I were fortunate enough to head to the west coast for a few days and it was just the dose of sunshine I needed to make me want to live there forever to end this yucky winter. Well, I thought we were going to end the winter but you know, it snowed yesterday, so who knows what’s going on with this Ohio weather.

I decided to take my camera around on this trip mostly because I had some new lenses that I wanted to use but also because I think I needed to take some photos of the glorious weather and scenery to remind myself that it exists outside of Ohio and that it’s just a plane ride away.

San Diego, California is hands down one of my favorite cities in the entire US. I was really excited that Jim was up for the drive south to head to a couple beaches and areas in San Diego so we could hang out and take a walk around the area. It was really nice to just be able to stroll around the beach and hang out in some nice weather as here it was pretty chilly.

And naturally with my camera out I had to take a few photos of my main squeeze.

I took a few more photos while we were in San Diego and enjoyed our walk because I just couldn’t help but be so in love with the area and our surroundings.

As we headed a little north to La Jolla Cove (such an amazing place) the sun started setting and I was really happy to grab some ocean sunset shots. I know it seems so cliché “the sunset over the ocean” but I love how they turned out and I’m really glad I took my camera out again to grab them.

The next night we headed towards Long Beach to grab some dinner at a place that Jim really wanted to try (craft beer scene, heyo!) but we wanted to kill some time to let the dinner rush die down a bit so we kinda started wandering around. Welp, about a half hour and a drive on what’s soon to be a race track for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach (it was an open road for now, so cool) we found the absolute quietest, most desolate place we’ve seen in California on a little awkward peninsula where the Queen Mary is docked. There was a little park area, the Queen Mary herself, and some other random docked boats and that was about it. It was the “off season” though so I’m assuming in the summer that area is a little more.. populated.. but for now we took it as a nice, quiet area before dinner. Oh, and the view of Long Beach wasn’t too bad either.

The next day was a Laguna Beach day and I was happy that this time I was there it was sunny and gorgeous so I got to get some shots that look less dreary as I previously got. Although, with pretty ocean and palm trees how dreary can you really get, ya know? All in all I was just thankful for the sun on my face and temperatures near 70 to roam around the park.

Then on our last day we had a few hours to kill before our flight so we ventured back to Laguna, although this time it was overcast and a little chilly. Chilly is relative, I suppose, seeing as while I’m writing this there is snow outside my Ohio window, but oh well.

While walking, we found this chalk message that I thought was truly amazing. I’m not sure if someone wrote it specifically for someone else or what, but it was just awesome.

Soon we were ready to leave but I can say that part of my heart will always be on the west coast. Happy Wednesday everyone!
