Snow Cat

Our cats are 100% indoor cats, but since we have friends with severe allergies to our furry family members, whenever we brush them we take them outside on our back steps so the dander doesn’t get spread around the house. (Gosh, we’re so considerate, right?) So anyway, when winter comes around our one cat, Charlie, doesn’t quite understand that his meowing to get brushed outside doesn’t matter because it’s snowy and cold. Periodically when I go towards his cat drawer (yeah, we have a cat drawer, judge me) he’ll look at me and run to the back door meowing because he thinks it’s time to go outside. In winter, occasionally, I’ll open the door when it’s snowy and be like “here! look! you don’t want to go out there!” and he’ll sniff around and then retreat away from the door.

Last week, he got a little more insistent on it. Jim was off work for two weeks and he started noticing how antsy Charlie was to get outside, so he said we should just take him out there and see how he feels about it. So we did.

*disclaimer: these were taken last week before it got crazy, insanely cold outside. I didn’t even want to go outside these past few days so there’s no way in heck I’d take my little fur family out there*

Jim figured it’d be best to carry him out and just plop him in the snow. Maybe a little mean but hey, he’s a cat that’s made for snow, so I said okay sure.

As fate would have it, a huge gust of wind and snow came at him almost exactly as we set him down. He wasn’t a fan of that and looking at his cute little face in the right image I immediately felt bad.

After the wind died down, he just kinda hung out there and curiously looked around. He didn’t seem really phased by the cold at all, which was pretty surprising.

And then, the only logical idea if you’re a cat and you see snow coming down, is to eat it. So he tried.

After the maybe 2 full minutes we were outside, I decided that was enough so I scooped him up, we dried him off, and then we sat him by our fireplace. He immediately walked away and gave us lots of love and snuggles the rest of the night which is rare for him. I think maybe he was thanking us for having such a warm home for him to live in.

Fun fact: he has yet to meow at the back door since last week, haha.
